Not worth its price
on January 3, 2014
Let me start by saying that I have experience with two screen protectors for the Wii U gamepad, the GreatShield and Hori offerings. In terms of quality, both are very similar - I didn't have air bubbles with either product, and both come with a cleaning cloth and soft card. The problem with this Hori offering is thus - it comes with 1 protector for about $10 CAD, and it is VERY easy to mess up application. One problem is that the alignment process isn't terribly obvious at first in terms of just how misaligned you may actually be placing the protector until after you've completely applied it. I've been through two of these, and they always end up quite nastily misaligned (the screen protector touches the bezel), and it isn't entirely obvious until after application. The cleaning cloth is also horrible. It is tiny, and leaves tons of residue wherever it is rubbed. No matter how hard I tried, with both Hori screen protectors I bought a speck of black dust appeared underneath. The way to remove it is to use the 'scotch tape trick' whereby a piece of scotch tape is affixed along the side of the protector, and then pulled gently to peel it back. This never worked for me, with numerous types of scotch tape and with either Hori protector. Invariably, I had to peel it off with my nail, damaging the protector and making it useless. $20 down the drain. I would greatly recommend GreatShield's product over this, which cost me $6 CAD for 3 protectors. While the application process isn't really any easier, it comes with essentially 3 trials and a nicer cleaning cloth, though I still prefer to use my own. I was able to get my first GreatShield on with little issue, and it has no dust under it nor does it seem to be functionally inferior to Hori's product. Additionally, some microscratches I had before applying the protector were significantly less visible under light with the GreatShield protector as opposed to the Hori protector, which did not cover these up at all, which is a nice bonus.
Overall, for its price and the lack of additional screen protectors, I absolutely cannot recommend this Hori screen protector.
