"Classic Musicals" - by Marlene M. Ross
They are great. All the old musicals were good, especially the ones with Fred and Ginger and Gene Kelley. You don't see that type of dancing anymore.

"An interesting, not funny face." - by Daniel J. Hamlow (Somewhere, New Mexico)
Well, funny isn't how I'd describe Audrey Hepburn's face. Dazzling, luminescent, one-of-a-kind... but funny? I'm not laughing. I more side with Fred Astaire's character Dick Avery, who says "What you call funny, I call interesting."
Seriously though, how does a shy, introverted, intellectual bluestocking who is a firm believer in empathicalism became a fashion model for Quality magazine? Part of it has to do with photographer Dick Avery blowing up some snaps of her after an uninvited photo session in her Greenwich Village bookstore, and selling her to Maggie Prescott, editor of Quality. Another has to do with a photo shoot in Paris for the new layout of Quality, in exchange for which she'll get to meet Professor Flostre, the philosophical founder of empathicalism and her hero.
The best scenes in the movie are the photo shoots, which shows Jo doing poses in the rain, holding ... full review

"we were pleased with this purchase" - by E. Thomas (Canada)
Bought this DVD as a gift. The reason I gave 4 stars is that very few people want DVDs any more. But it didn't seem to come on Blu Ray. Other than that....we were pleased with this purchase.

"The original Verve sessions re released." - by Robert Badgley (St Thomas,Ontario,Canada)
One cannot help but love this re issue of that now legendary recording session in Hollywood in Dec/52 with Astaire and a small collection of jazz greats, which included Oscar Peterson on piano,Ray Brown on bass and Barney Kessel on guitar.Astaire sings,he dances and reminisces, and is a pure delight.Fred seems totally at ease in this"new" jazz environment, taking classics from his film and stage shows and re working them to make new out of old.And for the most part it all works tremendously well.To Fred's credit he never seems to be out of his element at any time and keeps up with Oscar and the gang at their pace.
This collection includes the entire sessions with all bonus material ever released. It's a classic and historically important work for the inclusion of two giants in their field,Astaire and Oscar and his band of merry jazz men.The sound is excellent, as these are ... full review

"Finally, it's in Colour..." - by BShephard
We watch this movie every Christmas as part of our family traditions. We have always had the B&W version so it was an eye opener to see it in colour. I had only recently been made aware this movie had been colorized but could not find it anywhere. You have to look carefully at the top blue bar which says it has the coloured version included. All the other similarly packaged anniversary editions only include the original B & W version.

"You will never see anything like this again!" - by Amazon Customer (Kent,, WA USA)
Over the years this movie has usually been panned. Today, with availability on VHS, then on laser disc, and now on DVD this film is getting the acclaim it deserves. This is one of my favorite Astaire films, the first time I watched it I knew I would be watching it again and again. The true test of a classic film
The movie was panned, not for the dancing, but for the story. The story involves mistaken identity: Eleanor Powell is a musical star looking for a dancing partner. Fred Astaire and George Murphy are dancing partners trying to make it to Broadway when Eleanor Poewll's agent - manager - Frank Morgan sees their act. He wants Fred Astaire for Eleanor's new partner but through a mixup George gets the part. Of course, everything works out by the end of the film and we have a happy ending. I didn't think ... full review

"REAL TREAT" - by Mart Sander (www.martsander.com)
I was a bit hesitant when ordering this item - it smelled pretty much of cheap production values and low quality. The happier I am to inform everybody that we are dealing with a double bill DVD that boosts high picture/sound quality. Sure, there are no extras, but two good and perfectly preserved films with about 50 good songs should be quite enough. Marvellously priced product, and I'm on my way to order more from the same series.

"Great anti-war film" - by Mark Sherman
Great anti-war film. Very brave for it's era. Not everything has to have explosions and special effects to get the job done. A rare outing for Fred Astaire in a dramatic role. Answers the question as well - under what conditions is it worth surviving ? Strong stuff - horribly overlooked these days. Perhaps only equalled by the film 'Johnny got his gun'.
